Bael ka sharbat, A fruit that is not so good looking but loaded with essential nutrients.
Yes, we are talking about bael fruit, or in Hindi, it is called bilwa. It is a sweet, aromatic fruit that grows on the bael tree. Bael also known as the tree of Lord Shiva is of sacred value in India.
Bael, or wood apple, botanically named Aegle marmelos, is a medium-sized tree with slender branches and light brown bark that often exudes edible gum. It is also an important medicinal plant with multiple uses in traditional medicine. All parts of the bael root, leaves, stem, fruit, and seeds are useful in treating various ailments. The raw fruit looks greenish-gray, but the woody appearance turns yellow as it ripens.
What we need Bael ka sharbat
1 medium-sized bael
5 tablespoons sugar ( I have used homemade powdered sugar )
1 liter water
Mint leaves for garnish
How to make Bael ka sharbat
Break one bael and scoop out all of its pulp into a dish. Add 2 glasses of water to the mixture after you’ve removed all of the pulp. Mix and mash it thoroughly, then strain it through a soup sieve. Put the thick pulp in a bowl, add 1 glass of water, mash it back up, and filter it. At this stage, you can store pulp in a glass container covered with a lid and keep it in the fridge for 2-3 days.
Mash it again gently with cooled water. Pour it into a strainer and press it against a sieve with a wooden spoon. Remove as much pulp as possible while leaving the big fibers behind.
Add sugar and Stir until sugar is completely dissolved.
In a big pitcher, combine crushed mint leaves, ice cubes, and sherbet.
