What we need
- ½ cup red lentil/masoor dal
- 1 tomato chopped
- ½ onion chopped
- 1 tomato chopped
- 2 green chilli chopped
- ½ inch ginger chopped
- 2 clove garlic chopped
- ½ teaspoon Coriander powder
- ¼ teaspoon red chilli powder
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon ghee or oil
- ½ teaspoon mix spices /Garam masala
- Tempering
- 1 tbsp ghee or oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/3 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 1 pinch asafoetida/Hing
- Salt
How to make
Firstly, clean and wash dal and soak in water for 10 minutes. Heat ghee in a pan add cumin seeds, slit green chilli, onion,ginger-garlic sauté until onion become light brown. Add chopped tomato when tomato becomes soft now add turmeric powder, Coriander powder stir add lentil mix add 2 cup water salt cook on medium heat until lentils become soft.
Heat ghee or oil in a small pan add cumin seed when cumin cracked turn off the flame add asafoetida and red chilli powder. Pour this tempering over cooked dal garnish with chopped coriander. Serve with steam rice or roti.
Microwave Method
Microwave Cooking is quick and easy and hassle-free way of cooking.
Heat oil in the microwave-safe bowl on high for 16 seconds open add chopped onion, green chillies, chopped ginger and garlic micro again 2 minutes. Now stir, put turmeric coriander powder and chopped tomato cook 1 minutes. Now Add soaked dal with 2 cups water, add salt, cover and set the microwave on for 15 minutes keep stirring every 5 minutes.
