Ingredients
- For the Dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour maida
- 4 tablespoons ghee clarified butter
- Water as needed
- For the Filling:
- 1 cup grated khoya mawa
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts almonds, cashews, pistachios
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and ghee.
- Rub the ghee into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.
- Gradually add water and knead the mixture into a firm dough.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a separate bowl, mix together the grated khoya, powdered sugar, chopped nuts, and cardamom powder until well combined.
- Set aside the filling mixture.
- Shape the Gujihas:
- After the dough has rested, divide it into small lemon-sized balls.
- Roll out each ball into a small disc, approximately 3-4 inches in diameter.
- Place a spoonful of the prepared filling in the center of each disc.
- Fold the disc over the filling to form a half-moon shape.
- Seal the edges by pressing them together or using a fork to create a decorative pattern.
- Fry the Gujihas:
- Heat oil in a deep pan or kadhai over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully slide in the stuffed gujihas, a few at a time.
- Fry the gujihas until they turn golden brown and crispy on all sides, flipping them occasionally for even cooking.
- Remove the fried gujihas using a slotted spoon and drain excess oil on a paper towel.
- Serve and Enjoy your Homemade Gujiha.
- Allow the gujihas to cool slightly before serving.
- Serve them warm or at room temperature, garnished with a sprinkle of powdered sugar or chopped nuts.
